WORCA Thursday Toonie Rides

Ride with local and visiting bike enthusiasts at the Thursday night Toonie Rides hosted by Whistler Off Road Cycling Association (WORCA). Cost to participate is only $2 with half of the proceeds going to WORCA’s trail maintenance program and the balance awarded to the top riders. The first place male and female riders will win $50 each. The races are open to everyone, young and old, and of all abilities. These races see locals and visitors compete on different bike park trails every week with après at the Garibaldi Lift Company and wicked prizing. Events are capped at 300 racers so arrive early. All riders must be WORCA members with memberships available for purchase onsite by cash only. All riders must also have a bike park pass or ticket - discounted tickets are available for $18 at Guest Relations. Registration and race plate must be presented in order to receive the discounted rate. Registration is from 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM and race time is from 5 PM to 8 PM. Monthly Movie Series: The Island President

Film description by Samuel Goldwyn: The Island President is the story of President Mohamed Nasheed of the Maldives, a man confronting problem of the survival of his country and everyone in it. One of the most low-lying countries in the world, a rise of three feet in sea level would submerge the 1200 islands of the Maldives enough to make them uninhabitable. The Island President captures Nasheed's first year in office, culminating in his trip to the Copenhagen Climate Summit in 2009 where the film provides a rare glimpse of the political horse-trading that goes on between world leaders. ArtWalk is a walking tour that brings local artists' work into high-traffic venues throughout Whistler Village and the surrounding area, including cafes, retail outlets, hotels and restaurants. The work showcased over two months in summer includes: paintings, photography, jewellery, pottery, textiles and sculpture of all genres. The opening night will be held on July 4th in Whistler Village. The ArtWalk brochure, which lists participating artists and venues, are available at the end of June in all participating venues, Millennium Place and the Whistler Visitor Info Centre.
